AndréOpticas 30 years Birthday Party Video

At André Opticas, we sell glasses for people from another world, so what better way to celebrate 30 years of existence than with a dress that’s out of this world?

André Opticas presented the challenge, and João Rolo brought the project to life: an extravagant dress made with 8.5 metres of moiré fabric, featuring over 300 glasses and around 250 temples in shades of brown, red, and burgundy. A one-of-a-kind haute couture piece, now on display at André Opticas on Avenida da Liberdade in Lisbon.

Here, visitors can admire this masterpiece signed by João Rolo and also discover exclusive, luxurious eyewear brands. From authentic vintage relics—many crafted over 50 years ago—to international, commercial, and alternative labels, André Opticas offers a unique experience in high-end eyewear.

André Opticas Celebrates its 30th Anniversary with a Dress Made of Glasses

Founded in 1981, André Opticas is about to celebrate its 30th anniversary. An age that reflects the company’s maturity but, at the same time, seems like a short history for the many chapters already lived.

The brand’s DNA is clearly defined, as demonstrated by its journey. From pioneering initiatives such as limited edition collaborations with various artists, to being the first optical store in the country—and one of the few in Europe—with bespoke services for the most demanding clients, offering fully customized eyewear, to representing luxury brands that are often only available in around 20 stores worldwide.

With the opening of its flagship store on Avenida da Liberdade, André Opticas is a tribute to the world of high-end eyewear. With a collection of vintage pieces dating back to the 1920s, you can find a wide variety of items in its archives. To mark the occasion, on the day of the 30th anniversary, we will launch the first haute-couture dress made of glasses, in collaboration with the fashion designer João Rôlo.

Great people and a project that had been in the works for a long time, finally brought to life by the hands of our dear friend, haute couturier João Rôlo.

Special Edition 1st Anniversary André Opticas Av. Liberdade 136

1st YEAR CELEBRATION EDITON

For the celebration of the first anniversary at Av. Liberdade nº136, we did more than just ‘toast’ the moment.
With the intention of marking the occasion with our continuous offer of ‘glasses for people from another world,’ we once again prepared a very special edition.

Made from Buffalo Horn.
A family of artisans with years of experience, in a small workshop in the Swiss Alps, handcrafts each piece. In an authentic made-to-order process, the piece is custom-made to your measurements and engraved with your name on the temple…

A unique piece, with the classy style of the 60s,
but with a personal touch from an edition created on Av. Liberdade.

Oliver Peoples Vintage Exclusive at André Opticas

For the past two years, we had been hearing rumours about a possible re-edition of some Oliver Peoples icons.

That Mr. Larry Leigh had many people requesting it, and that he was searching through his entire archive for some true classics. From the start, we were eagerly anticipating what was to come, as throughout the many years we’ve worked with Oliver Peoples—before they even established themselves as a brand in Europe—they have always set the standard for high-end eyewear.

Unfortunately, some recent changes in the optical market have “cornered” Oliver Peoples into a new paradigm.
On one hand, the acquisition by Luxottica, a giant in the eyewear world, led to the mass expansion of retail points and production. On the other hand, the shift from manufacturing in Japan to a new factory in Italy has resulted in the production of many more frames than at the previous facilities. These differences in numbers are, in our opinion, partly due to a loss of quality in some pieces, rather than improved manufacturing methods.

Thankfully, we still have a vast collection, all produced in Japan… But not all news is bad!

We’re pleased to inform you about the re-edition of three models from the early collections of Mr. Larry Leigh. It seems he found a few frames with original hardened glass sun lenses…

The first model released by Oliver Peoples, the OP-505 from the 1986 collection, the OP-1955, and the unmistakable O’Malley, inspired by Peter O’Malley, President of the Dodgers.

Produced in the original factory, this limited edition is crafted with the first-class materials we love so much. In addition to the premium materials, the lenses feature the original colours from that era.

We have two complete sets available in Lisbon—but don’t sleep on it… These collector’s pieces quickly sell out at the few points of sale where they are available.

Special Edition Legendary Tigerman X André Opticas

The Femina collection is the first of its kind. Eyewear intentionally crafted for the taste of a showman, with a numbering from 1/10 to 10/10, featuring fronts made from vinyl records and temples with vintage film strips personally selected by Paulo Furtado, aka Legendary Tiger Man.

The one-man band now has a collection of eyewear for fans who follow his journey. With only 20 pieces in the world, the glasses come in cases made from the artist’s own Tiger single, signed by him. Check out the photos from the Coliseums, starting with the old ones and ending with the new ones.

Enjoy because it’s unique.
